DONOGHUE VOLLEY WINS IT

GFA Reserve League

Colga 1-2 Renmore

Renmore climbed to the top of the Reserve league table after a comfortable 2-1 away win against a resilient Colga side in Clarenbridge. Renmore took the lead midway through the first half when Shane McHugh rifled the ball into the roof of the net after some good link up play between Cillian Breathnach and Kieron McGinty.

Colga struck level moments later when Renmore seemed to switch off from a corner and gave Colga’s winger time in the box to pick his spot against the run of play. Stuart Donoghue scored what was to be the winning goal just before half time when the crafty Ollie Sheppard played the ball in and Donoghue controlled with his chest and struck a volley on the turn giving the keeper no chance. The second half saw Renmore create a number of chances but the score remained the same.

WALSH HOLDS FIRM WITH SEASONED PERFORMANCE

Renmore 2-0 Mervue B

Renmore move up to 2nd in the league with a hard earned victory over their local rivals. Renmore played good football and looked solid defending throughout with keeper Keith Loughnane and a backline of the impressive Dion Walshe, the evergreen, Colie Ridge and Jake Hall beside man of the match Cathal Walsh who put in a colossal effort at centre back.

Renmore bossed the game in the first half with Flo Jouffe Gerard, Keith Fitzgerald and Paddy McKernon linking up brilliantly. Renmore took the lead in the second half with a bullet header from the in-form Rory Glynn after a fantastic cross from the tireless worker Eoin O’Boyle just moments after Dion Walshe made a fantastic clearance off his own goal line!

There was then drama as both Mervue and Renmore missed penalties. Super-sub Shane Trout came off the bench to seal the win with a classy finish after some great link up play between the outstanding young pair Darragh Mulgannon and Cian Gallagher. Shane Trill came on to sure up the defence and put in a couple of vital challenges to keep the clean sheet and see Renmore move up to 2nd place just 1 point off leaders Cois Farraige.

Renmore 2-1 West Utd

Renmore move up to 2nd in the Reserve League just 2 points behind leaders Salthill Devon with a game in hand.

An outstanding display of hard work and togetherness saw Renmore overcome a strong West side who took the lead in the first half. Renmore defended excellently and the young backline of Ruairc Greaney, Ronan Hennessy, Alan Concannon and rock solid Cathal Burke along with keeper Dave McDonagh kept West at bay for the remainder of the first half.

Renmore came out of the blocks fighting after halftime. The midfield were excellent with Tony Kelly and Cillian Breathnach controlling the game and spreading the play well to Renmore’s wingers Ollie Sheppard who had his marker tormented with his mazy runs and Shane McHugh who caused West all kinds of trouble. Rob Mangan gave everything up front and his hard work and quick feet had West back peddling. 20 mins to go and with Renmore well on top caretaker boss Emlyn Coyne switched formation and brought on young Daniel Corbett and what a sub that turned out to be as he scored with his first touch a cracking header into the bottom corner from a superb Shane McHugh cross. Moments later when substitute Owen Fleming launched a ball upfield, Rob Mangan managed to head it back into the path of, Man of the Match, Kieron McGinty who took the ball in his stride and struck the winner from all of 30 yards in off the post!

O'BOYLE & TROUT STAR TO OVERTURN WEST COAST

Renmore AFC 3-1 West Coast United

Renmore were back to winning ways on Saturday afternoon with a great home win against West Coast Utd. Despite dominating possession in the first half Renmore were unable to break down the West Coast defence, with their goalkeeper pulling off a number of quality saves to keep it 0-0 at half time. West Coast took the lead early in the second half, against the run of play, with a fantastic diving header. Renmore, however, kept their composure and soon equalised through man of the match Eoin O'Boyle after a fantastic through ball from Flo Jouffe Gerrard. The home defence stood strong and new signing Keith Loughnane looked very accomplished between the sticks on his debut.
Shane Trout came off the bench to return from injury after six weeks out and what a comeback it was! Just two minutes on the pitch and he scored to put Renmore ahead and then with five minutes to go he stuck a cracking strike into the top corner to secure the 3-1 win.

RENMORE GO FOURTH AS THEY SCORE FIVE

MERVUE B 0-5 RENMORE

GFA DIVISION 1

Renmore continued their impressive start to the season with a 5-0 win away to rivals Mervue United B. In a very heated game Renmore found themselves one up, midway through the first half, when captain Paddy Gannon scored his 3rd of the season as he leapt above Mervue's defence to meet a pinpoint cross from Cian Gallagher. Renmore quickly doubled their lead when they were awarded a penalty for a deliberate handball in the area. Cian Gallagher smashed it home in fine style. Renmore then went 3-0 up before the break after Eoin O’Boyle out jumped his marker to head the ball into the path of Flo Jouffe Gerard who slotted home.

Two changes for Renmore at half time saw the brilliant Shane Trill replaced at right back by Lorcan Fox. Rob Mangan replaced Eoin O’Boyle up top who put in an excellent shift. Mervue came out fighting in the second half but the away side took the wind out of their sails when good defending from Colie Ridge resulted in Dara Mulgannon going on a mazy run from inside his own half only to see his strike hit the post and fall to the feet of Gallagher who notched his second and his side’s fourth. There was still more to come when substitute Kieron McGinty received the ball in the middle after the outstanding Keith Fitzgerald won it back and he released Mulgannon who was hacked down on the edge of the box. Gallagher stepped up and struck a wonderful free kick for his hat trick and Renmore’s 5th goal.

Rob Mangan worked hard up front and was unlucky not to get on the scoresheet when the brilliant Rory Glynn played a sublime through ball only for a last ditch tackle to deny him. Dave McDonagh pulled off a fine save from a free kick and Cathal Walsh was a rock all game for Renmore to limit Mervue to few chances. His replacement, Jake Hall and Andrin Kraja, who came on late, also defended well to ensure the clean sheet and move Renmore into 4th in the table just 2 points behind leaders Cois Farraige with 2 games in hand.

IT'S THE GALLAGHER & FAHY SHOW

FAI Junior Cup Rd 2 Result: Renmore 2-3 Athenry

A thrilling game in Renmore saw the home side edged out by the individual brilliance of Athenry’s Cathal Fahy. Athenry took the lead early as Fahy struck from distance leaving Renmore keeper Dave McDonagh helpless. Renmore held possession well and could have had a penalty when Darragh Mulgannon dribbled into the box and was taken down before he could get his shot away. Moments later Mulgannon was again involved when the hard working Rory Glynn played a sublime ball into his path but his strike crept agonisingly wide of the post. 1-0 at half time and all to play for but it was Athenry who came out faster early in the second half. It was Fahy again whose quick feet and his pinpoint cross found an unmarked Adam Kelleher at the packpost to make it 2-0.

When most teams would now be down and out, Renmore showed great character and stepped it up a gear in a bid to get back into the tie. Renmore piled on the pressure from the front with Jack Greaney, Cian Gallagher and Andrin Kraja forcing Athenry to go long where the rock solid Paddy Gannon and Cathal Walsh mopped everything up and set Renmore on the front foot through the hard working full backs Shane Trill and Colie Ridge.

Trill was sacrificed for the skilful Kieron McGinty who was involved immediately in phase after phase of attack as Renmore cranked up the pressure. Renmore finally got what they deserved for their hard work and were back in the game with 20 minutes to go when a sublime ball from Flo Jouffe Gerard released Cian Gallagher who was taken out by the Athenry keeper who was very lucky to stay on the pitch. Gallagher calmly sent the keeper the wrong way and it was game on!

Renmore committed bodies forward and piled on the pressure leaving themselves open at the back and when Athenry broke it took a last ditch tackle from the outstanding Keith Fitzgerald to win the ball back and get the ball forward to Rory Glynn who was fouled 25 yards from goal. Cian Gallagher stepped up and hit a wonderful free kick into the top corner to make it 2-2 and Renmore smelled blood. With 5 minutes to go and injury time looming Renmore were on top but again a moment of individual brilliance from Athenry’s Fahy saw him strike from all of 30 yards to seal the game and help Athenry through to Round 3. RESERVES 'FOURMIDABLE' AWAY

Reserve League Result: Tuam Celtic 0-4 Renmore AFC

A great team performance from Renmore Reserves saw them hit four past a good Tuam Celtic side and temporarily go top of the league. Returning from injury Lorcan Fox met a sublime Ollie Sheppard corner to make it 1-0 early on. Stuart Donoghue made it 2-0 soon after with a screamer of a free kick from all of 30 yards!

Man of the match Daniel Corbett made it three when Dion Walshe and Cillian Breathnach worked well down the flank to feed the ball into Donoghue who turned two defenders and played the ball across goal for Corbett to slot home. Captain Tony Kelly came close to scoring his first goal in two years just before half time when a 35 yard strike almost broke the crossbar!

A fourth in the second half as the brilliant Corbett dribbled past three players from a George Greaney pass and slotted home. Ruairc Greaney, Cathal Burke, Damien Sweeney and Shane McHugh from midfield defended brilliantly and substitutes Alan Concannon and Owen Fleming caused problems for Tuam after coming on. Stephen Doherty pulled off three great saves to ensure a clean sheet.

DONOGHUE STARTS WELL

DIVISION 1 GFA - RENMORE 3-0 MERLIN WOODS FC/MEDTRONIC

A perfect start to Donoghue's tenure as manager, as Renmore won their local derby versus Merlin Woods FC with a comprehensive 3 nil win. Deservedly leading at half time through an inswinging free kick at the midway point of the half, it was the visitors who seemed to be gaining control as the second half progressed. However a clinical finish to make it two from outside the box and a quick fire tenacious third, which saw Renmores perseverance quickly gain possession and counter, put paid to any thought of a come back despite Merlin Woods good passages of play up to that point. With over a week til their next match, an away trip to Dynamo Blues in Tuam on Sunday 8th Aug 11am kick off cannot come quickly enough. Renmore will relish the opportunity to prepare for their next challenge if this first showing of the season is anything to go by.

DOUBLE CHAMPIONS 25th May 2019

U16 DIVISION 1 CUP FINAL - RENMORE AFC 6-0 CREGMORE

Renmore AFC are U16 League and Cup champions after completing the double in Deacy Park on Saturday evening with a comprehensive 6-0 victory over Cregmore in the Championship/Division 1 cup final.

Patrick Nnadi was in devastating form for Renmore in the first half scoring the opener on 15 minutes following a scintillating run from the halfway line and providing the assists for goals from Niko Prenga and Daire Crowe before the interval.

Goalkeeper Conor Cooke-Winters was called into action early in the second half to make a brilliant fingertip save to deny Cregmore any foothold in the game and maintain Renmores clean sheet. With TJ Sweeney, Owen Coll and Kyle Long dominant in midfield the pressure mounted on the overworked Cregmore defence. Further goals from Ify Asogu, Kyle Long and Brian Oloyiwola in the second half completed the scoring.

Captain TJ Sweeney accepted the cup after the game from Galway FA Chairman Tom Trill on behalf of his squad. This win pulled the curtain down on a very successful season for this squad, securing the League and Cup double, promotion to the Premier League and reaching both the Connacht Cup and SFAI Regional Cup finals in addition to an extended run in the SFAI Cup proper.

Congratulations to the team and management for an excellent win and season.
