Renmore Association Football Club developed from an idea at a Community Games meeting in 1973 where Renmore was invited to submit a boys soccer team for the tournament. That team reached the finals and planted the seed for community soccer in Renmore.
Following the conclusion of the Galway Community Games in the summer of 1973, Bernard Shapiro was invited to attend the new Juvenile Committee of the Galway & District League as Renmore Representative. Within a season, the club had three teams competing in the local Galway F.A. Juvenile leagues as well as a Junior team.
The first committee meetings were attended by Bernard Shapiro (RIP), Mike Darcy and Tony Dilleen (Tony chaired the first ever Committee meeting of the club). Other founding members were Bernard's two sons Patrick and Bernard Jr, Tom Murphy, John Coll, brothers Damien and Paul Meaney, and Paul Gaughan. Mr Joe Keating also had an important role to play in inviting Bernard to the Galway & District League meetings and helping Bernard get started.
Since then, the Club has gone on to celebrate many honours, but most importantly Renmore AFC has been at the heart of the local community in all of this time. In our 50 illustrious years of existence our football club has enabled & empowered thousands in the Renmore area to share and grow as a community with others through sport. The club is proud of its achievements as well as being optimistic excited for the future.
